Lancaster III ED949 took off 1717 30JEan44 from Waddington. Shot down by a night- fighter near Neuruppin.

6 airmen were killed. Adams (Flight Engineer) +

Marshall Young Smith survived and became a POW.

Adams' Lancaster was part of a 534 ac (440 Lancs, 82 Halifaxes, 12 Mosquitoes) attack on Berlin. 32 Lancs and 1 Halifax were lost (6.2% of rhe force). Heavy damage was reported in the city and surrounding rural areas. At least 1,000 people were killed. Goebbels' Propaganda Ministry was hit.
