Siblings: Dorothy (1902), Clifford (1903), Ernest (1905), Wilfred (1907), Nellie (1909), Constance (born 1913-died 1914), George (1915), Kathleen(1918), John William (1920),twins Joe and Harry born in 1924, Harry died shortly after his birth and Sylvia (1927).
John William had been killed on 22nd August 1942 in the army truck accident out side Nottingham Road Cemetery whilst on his way home on leave.He was serving in the navy at the time.

Mansfield Chronicle Advertiser: 27/4/1944: Mansfield Man Killed.
With news that their son Flt Sgt Frank Childs has lost his life whilst serving the RAF in the Middle East. Mr & Mrs S Childs of 7 Baums Lane, Mansfield have suffered a second bereavement during the war. Another son, Signalman John W Childs of the R.N. was one of the three victims of a road accident on Nottingham Road Mansfield in August 1942. Three other members of the family, two sons and a daughterare also in the forces. Flt Sgt Childs who was 21 was a member of the local squadron of the A.T.S before joining the RAF two years ago.
