Family history

The son of Gertrude Blackburn of 29 Broomhill Lane, Mansfield.
Gertrude had been married to Ernest Blackburn but he died on 5th Dec 1917 in France during WW1 and they had several children, Ernest (1904), Nellie (1906), Lydia (1908), Gertrude (1911) and Arthur Henry (1914) but Albert was not born until 1921 so probably the result of an affair.

We regret to report the death of Pte Albert Blackburn , Sherwood Foresters, the youngest son of Mrs Blackburn; 29 Broomhill Lane, Mansfield who was killed in action in the Middle East on 13th June 1942. He Attended Broomhill School for 6 years leaving for Rosemary School at the age of 11 years. He took part in the plays for Rosemary School at the Mansfield Musical Festival. Before joining the forces he worked at Sherwood Colliery. He was always a cheerful boy, singing and whistling his way through life and will be sorely missed by his mother, family and numerous friends.
