Herbert was educated at Worksop's St. John's Boys, and Central Schools, and was also with Messer's Henry Spencer and son's at their Worksop Office. He was a member of the St. John's Church choir, and also took part in many other church activities. He had a love of cricket, and he assisted the Worksop County Technical College side for several seasons. He started work at Westminster Bank in Retford branch in September 1938.

Family history

Before joining the RAF Herbert Seaton lived with his mother at 7 Harstoft Avenue. His father Herbert had died in 1938 aged 54.

Military history

He was killed in an aircraft accident aboard Master N7619.

His war service started when he left the bank In July 1940. He became a Leading Aircraftman in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Herbert had just completed successfully his course of training as Sergeant Pilot, after only eight months service. He was just completing his training as a pilot when he was killed at Montrose on 19/03/1941 whist training in a Master 1 when he lost height during a solo night circuit.

His body was carried on what should have been his leave train back to Worksop.
