He was the son of Thomas William and Hilda Johnson of Nottingham, brother of Beryl Elizabeth, Thomas William, Harry Ellse and Leonard Arthur Johnson. They lived at 3, Grove Cottages, Castle Boulevard in 1921 and 160, Rolleston Drive (both Lenton Nottingham) in 1939.
