Frank Savage worked for a construction Company working on tracks for extensions to Lancaster bombers before enlisting.

Family history

Frank was the third of twelve children born to William Edgar and Isabella (née White) Savage of 61 Montpelier Road, Dunkirk, Nottingham. Frank's brother Stephen Albert Savage was killed May 1st 1943 serving with the Royal Navy (see elsewhere on this site).

In July 1939, Frank Savage and Frances Jackson were married at Preston.

Military history

Frank Savage was the fight engineer aboard Lancaster I LL841VN-O which took off 2249 8th June 1944 from Skellingthorpe and crashed while taking part in a bombing raid on rail installations at Rennes, in northwest France. No survivors. Fatalities: Savage+John Gilmour (P), Gilbert Harold Wright (N), Kenneth William Warner (W/Op), Donald Henry Gilbert Browett (AB), Thomas Edward Alexander (AG, Alexander MacLeod (AG).
