Employed as an oil well driller and in 1939 he was staying at the Trinity House, a boarding house in Southwell. The UK's first ever oil well was sunk at Duke's Wood at Eakring in 1939. The oil from this well was used during WW2.

Son of Walter and Katie E Norris from Reading.
He married Elsie Goodwin of Mansfield in 1940. He left her £221 10s 2d in his will and her addrss at the time was 32 St John Street, Mansfield.

Military history

M.V. Warwick Castle:
At 08:44 hours the Warwick Castle was hit by a torpedo from U-413 200miles northwest of Cape Espichel, Portugal. The master , 61 crew members and 34 other service personnel died. She was being used as a troop carrier and was on her way back from landing troops at Gibralter.
