Military history

Henry had enlisted in 1937 when he was 18 years old. H.M. Submarine Umpire: she suffered engine issues whilst escorting a north bound convoy off the coast of Norfolk. While passing a south bound convoy she was hit by the armed trawler, "Peter Hendricks" and she sank in 18 metres of water. Out of a crew of 22, 16 escaped the submarine but due to the cold North Sea water only one survived the sinking.
