Military history

The battalion was destroyed almost to the man while fighting in the Battle of Knightsbridge as they provided a defensive rear guard action to cover the retreat of the British Army during the Battle of Gazala (26/5-21/6/1942) The British attacked the German forces on the 5th June thinking that they were not as strong as they were and this lead to several days of heavy fighting.
