George Edson was a colliery hewer.

Family history

George Edson was born in 1889 at Pinxton, Derbyshire, he married Annie Bradley (born 17th August 1889 at Ashover, Derbyshire) at Sutton-in-Ashfield Parish Church on 8th April 1911 and they lived lived with Annie's parents at 22 Sherwood Street, Sutton.

They had two children, Harry Bradley born before wedlock on 17th February 1910 and Gladys Ada May born 3rd November 1911.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 22 Sherwoood Street, Kirkby Lane, Sutton in Ashfield, George Edson 22 yrs is a coal miner hewer is living with his wife Annie 21 yrs and their son Harry Edson 1 year old they are living with Annies parents Gorden Gent and his family.

His widow was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 6 pence a week.

His widow married Joseph Hancock in 1919.

Military history

Private George Edson enlisted in Mansfield, he served with the 2nd battalion Royal Welch Fusiliers and arrived in France on 4th August 1915. He was killed in action on 22nd June 1916 He has no known grave and is remembered on Loos Memorial, Dud Corner, Panel 50-52.
