Ernest was one of 10 children born between 1895 and 1917 (he was the youngest).

According to the Army Roll of Honour, Ernest was resident in Nottinghamshire when he enlisted. Not been able to locate a specific address in Clipstone for him.

In his will he left £61 18s 8d to Edna Kelly of 23 Bryanston Road, Aigburth, Liverpool. Edna was his eldest sister, she had married James Kelly in 1919
