Family history

Son of James and Sarah Agnes Baird of Clipstone, James had died in 1929 and Sarah had married Thomas Wormald in 1932.
Sarah had 3 sons with James; James in 1920, John in 1924 and Gordon Douglas in 1926. She had a another son, Bryan in 1933 with Thomas.

Military history

After the war ended in 945 the British had a force stationed in Palestine due to the mounting tensions between the Arabs and Jewish refugees from Europe.
On the 22nd July 1946 the Zionist group, Irgun, set off an explosion at the King David Hotel in Jeruslem. The hotel was being used as a military headquaters, military telephone exchange and a base for both military police and the local Palestinian Police. It has been described as "the nerve centre for British Rule in Palestine". Of the 91 casualties most were civilian but 13 soldiers were killed, including Douglas.
