In the late morning of 5/6/1944, 508th PIR were transported to Folkingham, Lincolnshire where they boarded 132 Dakota C47's and dropped into the Normandy countryside. There ensued 33 days of ferocious fighting: 2,056 US paratroopers went in, 1,061 became casualties, 307 were killed.
