Family history

Son of Thomas and Louisa Todhunter of 53 Crompton Road, Bilsthorpe.
Siblings: Asaph Felix (1911), Joseph (1912), John (1914), Douglas (1916), Ida (1919), Ruth (1924), Margaret (1926) and Vera (1929). They were all born in Auckland, County Durham and persumably the family moved to Bilsthorpe in the early 1930s when there was a large influx of miners from the North East to man the new colliery which had opened in 1925.
In 1942 Ernest married Mabel Elizabeth Stuart of Birkenhead. Their daughter, Valerie was born in early 1944, after her father's death.
Mabel married again in 1950 to Raymond Paxton.

Military history

RAF Commands:
A Mitchell FL195 caught fire while being started up, Ernest went for a fire extinquisher and walked into a propeller and was killed.

Extra information

In 1939 all of Ernest's older brothers worked at the colliery.
