Family history

Son of Ernest and Elizabeth Thorpe of 65 Savile Road, Bilsthorpe.
Siblings: Olive (1915), Edna (1920), Jessie (1925) and Ernest (1929).
In 1940 he married Ada Oliver, the sister of Lionel Oliver who died in 1945 whilst serving with the Pioneer Corps. His sister, Edna's husband, Harry Steele died whilst serving with the RAF in 1943.

Military history

Gloucestershire Regiment 10th Bn. crossed the Irrawaddy River and came under the command of the Fourteenth Army. They were involved yet again in extremely fierce fighting that led to the final operation that broke the last Japanese resistance in Burma. KIA at the Battle of Mandalay fighting against the Japanese 15th Division and units of the collaborationist Burma National Army and Indian National Army. Buried originally at Mandalay War.
