Son of Thomas and Edith Woodhead, of 26 Second Avenue, Edwinstowe.
Siblings: Kenneth (1914), Thomas (1915) and Edith Helen aka Nellie(1919).
He was a fitter and was killed when on a flight back to RAF Methwold Hyde, Norfolk from RAF Fretwell Norfolk, where it had been undergoing servicing. Methwold Hyde and Fretwell are only 3 miles apart.

Sympathy is extended to Mr & Mrs T Woodhead of 26 Second Avenue whose youngest son, Sgt Oswald Wheatcroft Woodhead was killed in a flying accident on Thursday. Sgt Woodhead who volunteered for the airforce2 and a half years ago was 22 years of age and he was on leave in October on his birthday. Sgt Woodhead was previously a student at the Mansfield Technical College. In a letter of condolence to his parents his acting commander says he was a very concientious member of the ground crew and he would be much missed by all. Before enlisting Sgt woodhead was employed as a commercial traveller for Messrs Broughs of Clipstone. His brother Gnr Tom Woodhead is serving in the Middle East and his sister, Nellie is serving in the N.A.F.F.I. The remains were laid to rest at Edwinstowe Churchyard.
