Son of Samuel and Florence Lacey of Mansfield Road, Edwinstowe.
Baptised at St Mary's Church, Edwinstowe on 14th October 1915.
Siblings: Florence (1901), Henry (1905) and Ivy may (1910).
In 1921 Samuel was working has a farm labourer for John Charles Greenfield's father, Charles at Villa Real Farm, Edwinstowe. They were living on Mansfield Road, Edwinstowe.
Married Hilda Elsie Marsh of 44 Houghton Road, Mansfield in 1939. She was working has a bus conductress in 1939. Hilda married Lesie Bowmer in late 1943.
The 1st Bn of the parachute Regiment parachuted into Beja 90 miles west of Tunis, Tunisia to capture a vital road junction. They captured both Beja and Mateur. From February 1943 they were deployed as a normal infantry battalion throughout the rest of the Tunisia Campaign.
