He was the son of John William and Grace Robinson and the brother of Phyllis Robinson. In 1921, they lived at 17, Crown Street, Bulwell, Nottingham. The family had moved to 44, Wordsworth Road, Radford, Nottingham by 1939.

49 Sqdn ORB, Summary of Events August 1940. 31st August:
'1500. 5 aircraft ordered to stand by for bombing operation.
20.50 aircraft took off at 5 minute intervals. No aircraft successful. P.2135 crashed in field adjacent aerodrome off climbing turn on take off. Crew killed.' (TNA Air 27/480/19)
