Air Gunner/Flight Engineer
Took off from RAF Lissett near Bridlington on a training flight. The crew bailed out after the starboard engine caught fire. Three crew men died and 4 survived. The plane crashed into St Bride's Bay Pembrokeshire. Sgt Robert Cook from Edinburgh and the pilot H Hopkins from Leicester were the other 2 members who died.

Sgt Clifford Marriott of the RAF and only son of Mr & Mrs W Marriott of Appleton Street, Warsop is reported missin, following an air accident in the West Country. Sgt Marriott who was a pupil at Burns Lane School and was subsquently employed at Dawson's Mill.

The funeral was conducted at Warsop Cemetery on Tuesday by Rev C Wainwright of Sgt George Clifford Marriott, only son of Mr & Mrs W Marriott of 14 Appleton Street Warsop who was reported missing after an air accident as stated in our columns a few weeks ago. His body was recovered from the sea off North Wales. Twenty years of age Sgt Marriott was employed at Dawson's Mill after leaving school. A service was held at Clumber Street Methodist Church.

The 4 survivors from the crash attended the funeral.
