Military history

NOTTINGHAM NORTHERN CEMETERY Sec. R/10. Grave 35

In August 1944, the 4th Battalion, Dorsetshire Regiment (a Territorial Army unit serving within the 130th Infantry Brigade of the 43rd (Wessex) Infantry Division) was heavily engaged in the fierce breakout battles of the Normandy Campaign following their D-Day landings in June.

The battalion's timeline through August 1944 represents a transition from grueling, bloody attritional warfare in the bocage to the rapid Allied pursuit of retreating German forces across the River Seine.

Aged on 17 and buried in the UK, Henry Hall was probably not killed in action.
