Family history

Son of Bertrand and Lucy Emma Jane Lee of Retford.
Leonard had a half sister, Mildred Hoggard born in 1906 and a brother, Ernest h Lee born in 1915. His parents had married in 1913 and Mildred was Lucy's child born out of wedlock.
Married Kathleen Nora Riley in 1941. Kathleen was a certified school teacher and in 1939 she lived with her parents at 11 Birkland Avenue Warsop.

Military history

IBCC: Sunderland Bomber: DV696:Coastal Command & Fleet Air Arm.
Leonard was the pilot. They took off from Pembroke Docks to attack a group of 5 U-Boats. They were shot down in the attack and the full crew of 11 were killed. The attack took place over the Bay of Biscay.

Sqdn 228 was based at Loch Erne from December 1942 and in May 1943 they moved to Pembroke Dock, Wales.
