Family history

Son of Harry and Elizabeth Ann Geeson of 40 Vickers Street, Warsop.
Siblings: Doris (1907), Ethel (1909), Eric (1911),Harry (1912), Elsie (1914), Winifred (1915), and Kathleen (1917). The oldest 5 were born in Annesley or Warsop and the youngest 3 in Maltby. The family moved back to Warsop between 1921 and 1939.

Military history

The regiment had been formed in India but had returned to England in 1940.
Landed in Algeria in November 1942 and in early 1943 they were re-eqipped with American Sherman tanks, replacing their old Valentine and Matilda vehicles. It took part in Operation Vulcan (22/4-6/5/1943) and Operation Strike(6/5-12/5/1943) the final ground attack on Italian and German forces at Tunis, Cape Bon and Bizerte, the last of the Axis bridgeheads in North Africa. The Axis forces surrended on 13th May leading to 240,000 the capture of Italian and German soldiers.
