Son of Herbert and Annie Woodcock of Cemetery Lodge, Mansfield Woodhouse. Herbert was the caretaker at the cemetery.
Siblings, Walter (1907), Herbert Eric (1913) and Donald (1926).
John was baptised at St Edmund's Church on 9th October 1910 and he married Lillian Susan Clay there on 17th March 1937.
John and Lillian had one son, Ian Charles, born in 1940.

Military history

The 5th Bn served in North Africa and was involved in the invasion of Sicily and Italy.
On the day that John died 2 other members of the 5th Bn also died, R. Ormond and L F Truman.

John Duncan and Reginald George Woodcock were first cousins as their fathers were brothers. Their grandfather was John Woodcock who had been a stone mason and lived with Herbert's family at Cemetery Lodge in 1911.
