Son of Herbert and Annie Woodcock of Cemetery Lodge, Mansfield Woodhouse. Herbert was the caretaker at Mansfield Woodhouse cemetery.
Siblings, Walter (1907), Herbert Eric (1913) and Donald (1926).
John was baptised at St Edmund's Church on 9th October 1910 and he married Lillian Susan Clay there on 17th March 1937 and they lived at "Kyro" Lowil Avenue, Mansfield Woodhouse.
John and Lillian had one son, Ian Charles, born on 17th October 1940.
The 5th Bn served in North Africa and was involved in the invasion of Sicily and Italy.
On the day that John died 2 other members of the 5th Bn also died, R. Ormond and L F Truman.

Mansfield Woodhouse residents will regret to hear of the death of John Duncan Woodcock, aged 33 years of "Kyro " Louwil Avenue, Mansfield Woodhouse who was killed by shell fire in Italy last December. He was the second son of Mr & Mrs H Woodcock, Cemetery Lodge. The eldest son, Walter, is serving with the RAF in India. The deceased leaves a widow and one son.
John was buried at Cassino War Cemetery, Italy
John Duncan and Reginald George Woodcock were first cousins as their fathers, Herbert and Christopher, were brothers. Their grandfather was John Woodcock who had been a stone mason and lived with Herbert's family at Cemetery Lodge in 1911.
