Walter Joseph Hussey was the son of Frederick William and Ada Helen Talbot (née Pearson; also Ada Smith Pearson).
His father was born in Nottingham in about 1865 and his mother in Cardiff, Wales, in October 1871. Frederick William married Ada Smith Pearson in 1894 (AMJ Nottingham) and they had five children, one of whom died in infancy: John b. 1894 , Frederick b. 27 December 1895 (reg. 1896 JFM) d. 1896 (JAS), Edward b. Sheffield 1897, Mary Ellen b. August 1905 and Walter Joseph Hussey b. 15 January 1915. With the exception of Edward who was born in Sheffield, their children were born in Nottingham. There are baptismal records for two of the children, Frederick who was baptised at Nottingham St Patrick on 17 February 1896 (parents Frederick William Talbot and Helen Smith Pearson), and Walter Josephus Husey b. 26 January 1915 bap. Cathedral Church of St Barnabus 28 February 1915 (parents Frederici Talbot and Adae Pearson).
Frederick, a wood turner, his wife and their two surviving sons, John and Edward, were living at 137 Noel Street in 1901 in the household of Frederick's widowed uncle, Joseph Snelling.
By 1911 the family had moved to 1 Waverley Terrace, Goldsmith Street, Nottingham. Only Frederick, and his three children, John, a porter, Edward, an apprentice pianoforte worker and Mary Ellen who was school age, were in the home on the night of the census. It is likely that his wife (Ada Helen Talbot, 39), described on the census as a sick nurse, was with a family on Nottingham Road.
Frederick William died aged 53 in 1918 (reg. JAS) and in 1921 his widow was living at 4 Henry Place, Palin Street, Nottingham, with her three of her four children, Edward a motorman (electric car) with Nottingham Corporation Tramways, Sherwood Depot, Mary Ellen a shorthand typist and Walter who was school age.
Ada later moved to North Parade, Grantham, where Walter completed his education at King's School Grantham from 3 May 1927 to 28 July 1927. He then worked for J. Lyons and Co. Ltd.
The family had returned to Nottingham by 1939 when the England & Wales Register was compiled and living at 29 Scalford Drive. Only Ada's daughter and Walter, a stores labourer, were still living at home. Also in the household was Pierre Marx (b. 1916), a student mining engineer.
Walter married Edna Shaw in 1940 (reg. OND Basford); they lived at 119 Holme Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham.
Ada was living at 36 Gregory Boulevard, Nottingham, at the time of Walter's death. She died on 21 March 1956; the probate record gave her address as 7 Ramsdale Crescent, Sherwood. Probate was awarded to her umarried daughter, Mary Ellen.
