Family history

Son of Samuel and Elizabet Anne Birch. Elizabeth died in 1915 and Samuel in 1924. In 1921 Samuel was living at 39 Dallas Street, Mansfield. William was one of at least 10 children. Clay was his mother's maiden name.
He married Beatrice Mary Brownlow of 61 Prince's Street at St Marks Church, Mansfield on 28th July 1923. They had one son, John B Birch born 17th January 1927.
In 1939 they lived at 10 Manvers Street, Mansfield and William was working has a builder's labourer and had volunteered for the auxillery fire service.

Extra information

William was based at HMS Sea Serpent at Birdham Sussex. HMS Sea Serpent was a shore base at the boat yards at Birdham and the surrounding holiday camps were used as billets for troops doing amphibious traing leading up to D-Day.
He was injured here on 15th July 1944 and died months later at 10 Manvers Street, Mansfield.
