Son of Frederick William and Bathsheba Graves Millbank Gale; husband of Ena Gale, of Mansfield Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire
Married Ena Ashley of 13 Allcroft Street, Mansfield Woodhouse in 1943. They had no children.
Ena worked as a comptometer operator in a transport department. (comptometer was a kind of adding machine). Ena's parents were Allen and Susie Ashley.
Pioneer Corps were formed in 1939 and their role included Mine clearence, guarding bases, laying track and road ways. 23 companies of Pioneers were used on D-Day to help move supplies and built temporay tracks on the beaches.
