Eldest son of Benjamin and Elizabeth Baugh of 103 Sherwood Street, Mansfield Woodhouse. Ben was one of 12 children~: Hilda E (1920), Thomas W (1923-1925), James (1925), Ellen (1927), Elizabeth (1929), Harry (1932), John aka Jack (1933), Wilfred (1935), Malcolm (1939-1942). There were also twin girls, Ellen & Emma born in late 1919 but they both died at ao soon after their birth.

Began loading the landing craft from "Empire Battle Axe" and "Glenearn" at 4:30 am by 6:00 am they were all loaded.
Despite considerable opposition on the exposed beach they pushed past and inland from the beaches.
By the end of the day they had lost: 5 Officers & 60 Other Ranks killed, 4 Officers & 137 Other Ranks wounded and 3 Other Ranks missing. this was roughly a quarter of the battalion.
