Military history

When the 1939 register was taken Ronald had already enlisted into the RAF Vol Reserve.
Departed from RAF Thorney Island at 16:10 on Operation Fuller. They were shot down by enemy fire and crashed in the North Sea, with the loss of the full crew.
Operation Fuller: THe German ships, Scharnhorst, Gneisenau and the Prinz Eugen left Brest on the 11th February and travelled through the English Channel to get to the North Sea. They got as far as Dover before they were attacked. The delay was caused by lack of aircraft and poor weather conditions (snow bound airfields). The Scharnhorst and Gneisenau were damaged by mines in the North Sea.
Ronald was a wireless operator.
