Military history

SS Nailsea Court was built in 1936. She was part of the North Atlantic Convoy Escourt when she was torpedoed by U-229 on 30th Oct 1943. Some men managed to get into a lifeboat but they did not make landfall until 13th March by which time only 7 men were still alive. The lifeboat was overcrowded and capsised leaving the men hanging onto the keel. Many men were washed away and drowned.
Frank was an able seaman/gunner.
