Military history

3 August 1940 a party of soldiers were walking along the Nottingham to Doncaster Road from Ollerton. A mile north of Ollerton roundabout a speeding car hit 2 killing them outright. The car failed to stop and was found at Perlethorpe the next day. Private Frank Mingay of the Sherwood Foresters was arrested for manslaughter.

Extra information

Frank Edward William Mingay of Ilkeston married in 1947 and died in Basford 1971.

Found not guilty of manslaughter by a jury at the subsequent court hearing, but guilty of dangerous driving. Sentanced to 12 months prison and 5 year driving ban.
