A well known footballer in the district and he had played for Notts County Boys.

Flew from Winthorpe, Newark on a night cross-country training exercise.
While over Scotland one of the propellers began to windmill. 3 attempts were made to put the Stirling down at Port Ellen airfield. While making a fourth approach the bomber crashed 21:37 near the watch office. Seven were killed outright and two were injured but one succumbed to his injuries the next day.
Mansfield Chronicle: 9/3/1944: Killed During Flying Duties: Much sympathy is extended to Mr & Mrs J Radford of 13 Bath Lane, Mansfield, in the loss ot their 22 year old so. Sgt Kenneth W Radford who was killed during flying duties as a wireless operative and air gunner.

Extra information

The service was conducted at St Lawrence Church by Rev T.A. Rockley. The mourners were Father, Mother, Gwen, Geoff and Ralph sister and brothers.
He was buried at Nottingham Road Cemetery, Mansfield grave A2552.
