Family history

Albert Harold Witts was born on 19th July 1897 at Mansfield, he was the son of Samuel a railway signalman and Agnes Witts née Hunt of 20 Padley Hill, Mnasfield.

His father Samuel was born in 1865 at Dortwhich, his mother Agnes Hunt was born in 1869 at Leicester, they were married in 1888 at Blaby, Leicestershire, they went on to have 6 children.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 36 Goldsmith Street, Mansfield Samuel 46 yrs is a railway signalman, he is living with his wife Agnes 42 yrs and their children, Frank 19 yrs a beer finer,Harry 17 yrs a tram conductor, Augustus 15 yrs a shop assistant, Albert Henry 13 yrs a stable boy and David Herbert 3 yrs of age.

Military history

Private Albert Harold Witts enlisted on 19th May 1915 at Mansfield, he was 19 years and 305 days old, he was living at 36 Goldsmith Street, Mansfield, he was a clerk, he was posted to the 16th battalion Royal Welsh Fusuliers. he embarked from Folkstone on 2nd December 1915 he was killed in action on 10th July 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial
