Family history

Son of Thomas and Mable Hicks of 23 Pickard Street, Mansfield.
Siblings: Gladys (1906) and Dorothy (1907). His brother Arthur Anthony (Tony) born in 1921 died whilst serving with the RAF 16 days before Leslie's death.
Married Hilda Curzon in 1939. In 1939 Hilda was living with her mother at 55 Alcock Street, Mansfield and she was working in the shoe trade.

HMS Drake II was a shore establishment at Devonport, Plymouth, situated next to the dockyard.
Plymouth was subjected to months of bombardment from 6th July 1940 to 30th April 1941. Leslie died on the last day of the bombing.

Funeral of Petty Officer Leslie Hicks. A Mansfield P.O. Leslie Hicks the 24 year old son of Mr & Mrs T Hicks of 23 Pickard Street, Mansfield was numbered amongst the victims of the recent blitz on Plymouth. By
Buried at Nottingham Road Cemetery, Mansfield, grave 12693.his death Mr & Mrs Hicks have lost both their sons in the space of one month.
Their youngest son, Tony died of pnuemonia in the Midde East. Leslie who had been married nearly 2 years, has seen practically 5 years service in the Royal Navy.
Both he and his brother attended High Oakham School and were keenly interested in all sports, particularly swimming. Attended St lawrence Church and the church's boy scout troop.
The funeral of P.O. Hicks took place on Tuesday with a service being held at St Lawrence Church with special reference to the death of his brother. The cortege was provided with a military escort.
