Son of Thomas and Mary Dunlop, of Ayr; husband of Mary Alexander Dunlop, of Ayr. His son John also died on service.

Military history

Died from a head injury sustained at Newark Baths several days earlier, after striking his head on the chute. Secondary hemorrhage from Sepsis attributed to Pyorrhea.

Served with the BEF in France, landing at Le Harve 18/3/1940. 697 Gen. Constr. Coy was employed in constructing roads and taxiways at Bapaume-Grevillers airfield, 10 KIA and 20 WIA 10/5/1940 during an air raid.

During the general retreat the 697 Gen. Constr built barricades on the approaches to Boulogne, evacuated via Calais 22/5/1940.

Regrouped at Tidworth and moved to Newark 24/5/1940. Most of the 697 Gen. Constr. Coy then moved to Waitworth Camp, Yorkshire 30/5/1940 and employed with repairing bombing damage at RAF Catterick, Dishford and Upworth.
