Military history

9 Royal Engineers training on the railway in Melbourne were killed and 15 injured by a German H.E bomb dropped on their billet at The Blue Bell Inn, Church Street, Melbourne, Derbyshire at 810am. 8 of them are buried in Melbourne Cemetery. A single Heinkel He111 of II/KG53 tasked to bomb a target near Burton on Trent that morning the most probable cause. Charles and Hannah would lose both their sons in WW2.
