Admitted to Newark Hospital still conscious with a gunshot wound to the abdomen after shooting himself at the O.C.T.U, Bowbridge Road, Newark. Died the following day after being transfered to Lincoln Military Hospital. The inquest 6/3/1945 heard he had been told he would be RTU'd (returned to unit) after failing the course. He had informed the Medical Officer at Lincoln that it was the "Disgrace of being RTU'd that had made him try and shot himself in the heart, but he had made a mess of it ".
