Son of Joseph Ambrose and Susannah Wells of 117 Brownlow Road, Mansfield.
Siblings: Thomas (1902), Ernest (1914), and twins Joseph & Maud born in 1917.
In 1937 he married Edith Brunt and they had one son, Roger, born in 1938.
Military history
The regiment was in North Africa from July 1942. From September 1943 they took part in the invasion of Italy including the attack on Salerno. The 192 battery, to which John was attached, was sent to the Anzio Beach Head on the 30th January.
