Son of Francis and Constance (Connie) Parnell. In 1921 they were living at 11 Cromer Terrace, Mansfield. Francis snr died in 1938 and by 1939 Connie was living with her 4 children at 3 Hobhouse Road, Mansfield. Francis (1920), Dorothy (1921), Thomas (1923) and Constance (1924).
Francis snr served in the Royal Navy between 1912 and 1921.

Military history

HMS Acheron: Launched on 18th march 1930 and was sunk on 17th December 1940.
She had been damaged in an air-raid in August 1940 and after repairs in port for sea trials around the Isle of Wight when she struck a mine. Major structual damage was caused and she sank in 4 mins. 196 crew and yardworks were on board and only 19 survived.
