
Edward William Comerford
Known as William on CWGC.
Worked at the local shoe factory. Probably Mansfield Shoe Company on Dallas Street, Mansfield has his father and oldest sister were working there in 1921. At least 2 of his other sisters also worked in the shoe manufacturing trade. The family had started out in Northampton, a centre for shoe making before moving to Mansfield in 1920/1921.

Parents were Edward William and Harriet Comerford. In 1921 they were living at 55 Victoria Street, Mansfield and on 1939 they had moved to 34 Abbott Road, Mansfield.
Edward had 6 older sisters, Annie (1903), Ena (1910), Hilda (1911) then twins Doris & Gladys (1916) Gladys died at or shortly after her birth has their last daughter born in 1917 was also called Gladys. Edward William the only boy was born in 1920 and named after his father.
Based in India until March 1942 when they were deployed to Burma.
In January 1943 they were taking part in the Arakan Campaign, the aim was to capture the Japanese occupied town of Akyab, its port and airfield at the end of the Mayu peninsula.
