
Arthur Temporal
Attended Pleasley and High Oakham schools. He left school at 15 and went to work in a shoe factory in Leicester until he joined the Navy.

Parents were Arthur and Elizabeth Temporal. In 1921 they were living with Elizabeth's parents, Samuel and Jane Redfern at 27 Bagshaw Street, Pleasley. Arthur was only 4 months old. Arthur snr worked at Glapwell Colliery.
By 1939 the family were living at 16 Wharmby Avenue, Mansfield. Arthur was the oldest of a large family, but several died very young, Irene (1925),May (1924), Harry (1926-1926), Doris (1928-1932) Jean (1930), Janet (1932-1947), William (1934) and twins June (1936-1938) and May (1936-1940).
Arthur enlisted early in 1939 and was the wireless operative. Triton was his first vessel and he had been a crew member since July 1939.
Submarine Triton: contact was lost on 6th December 1940 and the R. N. assumed that HM Triton had attacked the Italian merchant ship, Olimpia on the 6th but there was no contact from Triton and she was persumed lost on the 18th of December after being sunk by mines in the Straits of Otranto. All 59 men are declared lost.

The Admiralty has announced that H.M. Submarine Triton is overdue and must be considered lost. Serving as a wireless operative on board the vessel, Arthur Temporal, the 19 year old son of Mr & Mrs A Temporalof 16 Wharmby Avenue, Mansfield who joined the Navy in early 1939 and has been serving in the Titon, his first vessel, since July last year.
