
Douglas Bingham

Born in Pleasley to William Cook Bingham and Minnie Bingham. Had several siblings, Russell (1910), Geoffrey (1913) and Elsie (1920). In 1939 the family where living at 85 Bagshaw Street, Pleasley Hill.
Douglas was baptised at St Barnabas Church, Pleasley Hill on 6th May 1917.
In 1941 he married Frances Humphrey of 23 Hibbert Street, Mansfield. She was working has a tin box machinest. Frances married Kenneth Wheeler in 1951.
The 6th Bn of the Black Watch, (Royal Highlanders) were in France until the evacuation of Dunkirk. In 1943 the regiment was sent to Tunisia and then they took part in the invasion of Italy, including the battle of Monte Cassino.
Douglas is buried at Foiano Della Chiana War Cemetery, Italy, 11. A.6.
