He married June 1933 to Mary Roebuck and they had no children
In 1939 Alfred and Mary where living at 35 Silk Street, Sutton in Ashfield. He was working as grocer's assistant and Mary has as a hosiery machinist.
Mary married again in 1956, to Rowland Waterfield.

Military history

The battalion served in North Africa, Italy and Greece. They took part in the fourth and final battle for Monte Cassino on the 11th of May 1944, suffering heavy losses. They were involved in fighting across Italy.
