Son of John William and Gertie Bull of 39 Woodland Drive, Mansfield. He had an older sister, Dorothy Joan born in 1921.
Military history
John's unit parachuted into France on D-Day with the objective to take the village of Bas de Ranville. They took the village despite the troops being scattered over a wide area during the drop. Over the next few days they held the village despite heavy bombardment in which their commander Lt Col Jonny Johnson was killed.
