Son of John and Mary Ann Briggs of Kirkby in Ashfield. By 1939 John had died. Maurice had several older siblings, Thomas, John, Amos and Bertha.
20 Bomb Disposal company was based in Sevenoaks, Kent and was part of the South East Command.
