2/3 July 1942 Wellington R1650 301 Sqn RAF Hemswell raid on Bremen, Attacked by a Ju88 and Bf110 directly after bombing. Receiving significant damage and all but the pilot and the front gunner seriously injured. The port engine was rendered inoperable. Despite this, the pilot successfully regained the UK coastline with the assistance of the injured navigator and effected a crash landing on return to RAF Swanton Morley. 2 crew wounded by shrapnel died over the next few days at Norfolk & Norwich Hospital.
