John Wilfred Sissons was born in 1899 at Manchester he was the son of Fred an overseer and Matilda Sissons née Freeman of 6 Devonshire Promenade Lenton , Nottingham.

His father Fred was born in 1874 at Pleasley, his mother Matilda Freeman was born in 1875 at Edwinstowe, they were married on 2nd April 1892 at the parish church at Pleasley, they went on to have 6 children sadly one died in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family were living at Field Cottage, Pleasley, Fred 37 yrs an overseer he is living with his wife Matilda 36 yrs and their children, Margaret 18 yrs a typist, Sarah Jane 16 yrs no occupation listed, Henry 14 yrs a scholar, John Wilfred 11 yrs a scholar and Frances May 6 yrs of age

Military history

Private John Wilfred Sissons enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 10th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, he died of wounds on 9th April 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial, Belgium.
