23 December 1941 Wellington W5374 305 Sqn Take off RAF Lindholme at 17.32 on a mission to Koln. On return W5374 was seen below low cloud at 500ft approaching Sibbertoft. Believed to have been damaged by Flak and reportedly on fire, the aircraft cleared the village before crashing and exploding on the Naseby Road at 21.20. Locals recovered the bodies and placed them in the out buildings of the Red Lion Pub.
