Daughter of William and Lucy Brumpton nee Dodsley of 84 London Road, Balderton.
16 August 1941 Hampden X2959 25 OTU. Night circuit training from RAF Balderton strayed off course while attempting to land and hit trees before crashing into 3 houses on, London Road, Balderton and catching fire. Mrs Lucy Brumpton was in her bedroom at the front of the house at the time with her youngest child, Roy, and they managed to survive the crash by jumping out of a window. The other children in the bedrooms at the back were killed. William their father was working nights at the shutting yard, Northgate station and arrived in the morning to find his house destroyed and 6 of his 7 children dead.
Sgt Sydney Baldachin - Son of Rudolph and Florence Baldachin, of Bulawayo, Southern Rhodesia.
Sgt Thomas Wood - Son of Thomas and Nelly Wood, of Bramhall. His brother, John Mydelton Wood, also died on service. Both killed.
Sgt Hector MacDonald - Injured, born 1917, son of John (died 1930) and Hannah MacDonald of Penarth, Glamorgan. Died Penarth, Glamorgan 16/5/1995. Hector married Hilda Rhodes in 1947. Hilda had lost her first husband, William Carter RASC killed at Dunkirk 27/5/1940 and her son, William in 1943, William was 6.
