21 October 1943 Wellington BK471 18 OTU RAF Bricotes, satellite of RAF Finningley. Take off 19.17 on evening navigation training, soon afterward the pilot informed base he had an engine problem at 4000ft and was returning. At 19.57 the engine failed and BK471 crashed into trees at Rossington Hall, 2 miles north of the airfield and caught fire.

Subsequent inspection found a taper pin had sheared in the engine, leading to a
catastrophic failure.
