Son of Joseph and Florence Footitt nee Goddard. Husband of Dorothy M Hoskins, married 1940. The White House, Millgate, Newark.
Member of the 8th Sherwood Foresters TA, from September 1932 to September 1936.
He was recalled 17/1/1940, sent to France with the 5th Sherwood Foresters of the BEF.
Severely wounded, head injury, he was evacuated from Dunkirk.
2/5/1941 found physically unfit by a medical board and discharged from Army service under King's Regulations, 1940, paragraph 390 (xvi) as "ceasing to fulfill Army physical requirements."
Spenting 6 months at St Hugh’s College Oxford which became a military hospital specializing in head injuries, and later at Headington Hill Hall, one of the places where the injured were taken to recuperate.
Died at Newark General Hospital of Addison's Disease. Hypoadrenalism, Adrenal gland failure or the inability to produce adrenocorticotropin and other pituitary hormones occurs in approximately 25% of patients after traumatic brain injury.
